On October 7th, 2022, Catholic Social Services of Montana (CSSM), in association with Catholic Charities USA, contributed $50,000 to the Carbon County Disaster Relief Fund, an initiative of the Red Lodge Area Community Foundation. To date, CSSM has contributed $60,000 total to the disaster relief efforts in Carbon, Park, and Stillwater Counties through the acquisition of grants and restricted donations.

CSSM Executive Director, Scott Held, said the following about the gift, “Our prayers continue to be with those affected by this spring’s flooding. We are grateful for the donations and grants we have received that allow us to make this contribution to the Carbon County Disaster Relief Fund. These funds will assist with the rebuilding of homes and lives, ensuring we help take care of our neighbors, as our mission and faith call us to do.” In addition to the $60,000 directly contributed by CSSM, another $47,000 was raised through the generosity of Catholic parishioners in central and eastern Montana. In cooperation with one another, CSSM and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Great Falls-Billings have contributed $107,000 in support of those affected by the natural disasters.

CSSM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has served the state of Montana since 1953 by building and supporting Montana families, with office locations in Helena and Billings currently. Their ministry reaches out to those in-need by providing pregnancy counseling and support, infant, foster care, domestic, international, and direct placement adoptions, and free access to Baby Boutiques for families. CSSM is in the process of researching new ways to serve the people of Montana and hopes to add new ministries soon.
